Otherwise known as the Palaeolithic diet or Stone Age diet the Caveman diet is the earliest diet consumed by man. Nutritionists have been studying the Caveman diet for decades, but it is only recently that a controlled study has been undertaken with the Caveman in relation to lowering blood sugar readings of type II diabetics.
My subsequent research and reading prior to undertaking the diet has confirmed my suspicions about our modern day diet. Reportedly, followers of this diet have also reported alleviation in symptoms - gastric and IBS symptoms, skin complaints and inflammatory diseases such as Lupus. The nature of this particular blog is to note improvement to my weight and diabetes in conjunction with consuming the 'Caveman diet.
The research took a small group of type II diabetics; half of the group consumed the Palaeolithic Diet allowing lean meat, fish, vegetables, root vegetables and fruit. The other group ate a healthy Mediterranean diet with whole-grain cereals, low-fat dairy products, fruit, vegetables and healthy fats. At the end of the study those all those on the Palaeolithic diet were found to have normal blood sugars, some also had the additional benefit of having lost weight and reduced waist measurements. However, the group on the Mediterranean diet did not record any significant changes in their blood sugar readings.
